Hi,
Aalsterse vlaai is an ancient traditional pastries from Aalst. Aalst is the second largest city in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The "vlaai" is a type of bread pudding that was originally baked to eliminate food surpluses. "Vlaai" can be eaten as a pie, but can also be eaten between sandwiches.
- 250g of toast
- 250g of gingerbread
- 1,25 ml of milk
- 200 ml of candy syrup
- 2 tbsp of cinnamon
- Optional : some sugar
- Crumble 2 packages of toast (250g) in a big bowl + 250g of gingerbread
- Add 1,25 liter of milk
- Combine and mash well
- Add 200g of candy syrup and 2 tbsp of cinnamon and combine
- Transfer the mixture into a greased oven dish
- Add a good layer of candy syrup and sprinkle some cinnamon on top
- And into a pre-heated oven (180°C) for 1 hour
